| Student Profile
NewHope Students are of junior high to senior high school age.
They are of average to superior ability and typically
exhibit emotional difficulties that undermine their academic achievement
and limit social interaction. While not all students have the same
characteristics, NewHope students tend
to:

Be of Average to above-average intelligence;
-
Withdraw socially and emotionally;
-
"Slip through the cracks"
until their problems are severe;
-
Procrastinate, especially with homework assignments and long-term
projects;
-
Have talent in the arts and/or the potential for high academic
achievement;
-
Do poorly in physical education and other group-type activities;
-
Use frequent illness as a means of avoiding school and may become
school phobic;
-
Appear sad, lonely, hopeless and/or depressed;
-
Harbor anger and hostility but don’t act out violently in
school or in the community; and
-
May have mis/undiagnosed neurological problems that contribute to
academic and social challenges.
